What People Are Saying About Dan

Daniel K. Inouye, the most senior member of the United States Senate, has quietly made his mark as a can-do legislator, working to benefit all of Hawaii. He has fought for jobs, quality education for our keiki, better infrastructure for our islands, and a cleaner environment. This is the work he's done since he was first elected in to the Senate in 1962, and this is the work he'll continue to do in 2010.

People across Hawaii are talking about how Senator Dan has helped them and delivered for Hawaii. These are their stories.

“Pu’uhonua O Honaunau National Historic Park is a treasure of ancient heiau, ki‘i, and other historical features. Thanks to the Senator’s efforts, $4.6 million was appropriated to purchase an additional 239-acres in 2005 – doubling the size of the park – including the ancient village of Ki‘ilae. Over the last decade, $22 million was also secured for the National Park Service’s 116,000-acre purchase of Kahuku Ranch, the newest addition to the Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. As a result, six rare endangered birds and mammals are now being protected. Other major conservation projects supported by the Senator include the $10 million Hawai‘i Experimental Tropical Forest, comprised of the 12,000-acre Laupahoehoe wet forest and the nearly 39,000-acre Pu‘u Wa‘awa‘a dry forest, and the Kohala Center which received $2.6 million in stimulus funding for the Pelekane Bay Watershed Restoration Project. Senator Inouye’s vision and advocacy for natural, cultural and historical conservation will benefit many generations to come.”
