What People Are Saying About Dan
Daniel K. Inouye, the most senior member of the United States Senate, has quietly made his mark as a can-do legislator, working to benefit all of Hawaii. He has fought for jobs, quality education for our keiki, better infrastructure for our islands, and a cleaner environment. This is the work he's done since he was first elected in to the Senate in 1962, and this is the work he'll continue to do in 2010.
People across Hawaii are talking about how Senator Dan has helped them and delivered for Hawaii. These are their stories.
Ryan T. Shigetani
Executive Director, Hawaii 3R's
“In 2001, through the vision and leadership of Senator Dan Inouye, an innovative program called Hawaii 3R’s – Repair, Remodel & Restore – was established to help provide a better and safer learning environment for the students of Hawaii’s public schools. Hawaii 3R’s creates and fosters partnerships with State agencies, trade unions and associations, private businesses, all branches of the military, community groups, private foundations, legislators, parents, teachers and students. Over 2,400 volunteers have donated their time and energy to the schools through Hawaii 3R’s projects. Proactive schools can now complete significant and needed repair and maintenance projects in a matter of months, instead of years. In ten years, Hawaii 3R’s has awarded 494 grants to 182 different public schools statewide, totaling $14.1 million…$11.2 million from federal funds secured by Senator Inouye. Hawaii 3R’s has saved the state $36.2 million over this period.”
