What People Are Saying About Dan

Daniel K. Inouye, the most senior member of the United States Senate, has quietly made his mark as a can-do legislator, working to benefit all of Hawaii. He has fought for jobs, quality education for our keiki, better infrastructure for our islands, and a cleaner environment. This is the work he's done since he was first elected in to the Senate in 1962, and this is the work he'll continue to do in 2010.

People across Hawaii are talking about how Senator Dan has helped them and delivered for Hawaii. These are their stories.

“The Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard is Hawai‘i’s largest industrial employer, with 4,300 civilian and 500 military personnel. Dan Inouye has always been there to ensure that the Islands get their fair share. In 2005, he intervened to save Pearl Harbor’s $1.5 billion shipyard from base closure. With the most advanced Virginia class of submarines homeported at Pearl Harbor, the future is bright. Many local residents got their start in the shipyard apprentice program that Senator Inouye established 7 years ago. In that time, nearly 1,000 Hawai‘I apprentices have been recruited and trained at the shipyard, and upon graduation, they start at $28.25 an hour. This is a great investment in the future of our nation and our state, thanks to Senator Inouye.”
