“Senator Inouye has been instrumental in providing educational programs that are grounded in both Hawai‘i’s culture and scientific research. One shining example is the Big Island’s ‘Imiloa Science Center, located at the foot of Mauna Kea, supported by $15 million in government and private funding. ‘Imiloa is a celebration of Hawaiian culture, Polynesian wayfinding and leading-edge astronomy, all combined to provide a vibrant educational experience to Hawai‘i’s youth. By relating Hawai‘i’s indigenous heritage to science and technology, we as educators are achieving positive results in increasing Hawai‘i’s youth participation in science-based careers. Through Senator Inouye’s funding efforts, succeeding generations will continue to advance to the forefront of cutting-edge scientific exploration, educational discoveries and careers.”
